進階英文寫作講義(1-1) 

這是安老師在甲子林語言認證中心教授[進階英文寫作]的講義大綱。本講義為安老師依學生程度編寫,學生學習目標是多益(TOEIC)證照、托福考試(TOFEL)及全民英檢。本課程每階段八週每週兩小時(兩個月),翻譯部分於上課時練習並講解修改。寫作部分寫完後由老師帶回批改並在下次上課時講解。本講義有影音媒體配合大綱作講解,有興趣讀者可來信洽詢。不斷的寫作及請老師修改是學習英文寫作的最好方法。每週一次的寫作練習需老師修改者,請函索英文寫作批改辦法。

[本週講義導讀]

1節說明英文寫作的評分要點,幫助學員瞭解英文寫作努力的方向。

2節為適合學生程度的中英翻譯,因為學員的母語是中文,思維模式均以中文為本,必須練習將寫作思維的中文轉換成英文,以成就一篇好的文章,每週都有此部分練習。

3節說明英文寫作的方法。

4, 5節練習短文英翻中的方法,上課時兩位學員一組,互相切磋改正後,再由老師修改。

6節閱讀一篇約五百字的英文短文,由學員寫出此文的要點,交老師帶回批改。

7節聽一篇約五百字的講述,由學員寫出講述要點,交老師批改。

1.1  Criteria of Evaluate English Writing Ability (英文寫作評估項目)

  a. Organization of your thinking and opinions on the topic.     

     寫作主題的結構和思維。

  b. Clear and grammar corrected sentences.

      句子表達的清楚,及文法的正確性。

  c. Corrected spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation in writing.

      使用字彙,拼字,和標點符號的正確使用。

2.1 Chinese sentences

注意:下橫線的中文在翻譯時以英文片語表達。這些英文

片語應該像英文單字一樣記下來。

a. 一般來說,英文是國際網路的通用語言,但是它沒有,也永遠不會有官方地位。

b. 英文佔有此地位的原因是因為說英文國家的權勢,及經濟與政治的重要性。

c. 在語言學上,英文很不適合做國際交流,但是英文實際上的廣為使用,將世界兩極化的分成國際網路的使用者及國際網路的文盲。

 

d. 英文的地位只會被世界性的政治和經濟的主要改變而動搖,例如歐盟或日本與中國的結盟。

 

e. 此類強權可能希望能推動一種別於英文的語言,可能是一種作為國際交流的結構化語言。

3. Sentence Tips (英文句字寫作撇步)

3.1 The use of transition phrases (連接詞的使用)

Transition words and phrases are used to explain the relationship between two pieces of information. Without them, you leave it up to your reader to decide what that relationship is, and what point you are trying to make.

"On the other hand," is used to compare the difference in attitude between the author and the lecturer.

"According to the author" explains whose information is being discussed.

"also points out" signals that the information is a continuation of the same person's point.

"In other words," explains the purpose or intent of the previous comment.

"However," can be used at the beginning, middle or end of the sentence to emphasize that one piece of information in some way contradicts another.

3.2 The transition phrases collection (連接詞的例子)

4.1 The World's Online Marketplace (世界網路銷售市場)

1. Do you like shopping online? Do you like finding a bargain  or a good buy? Then eBay is for you. eBay is The World's Online Marketplace. It's a place to buy and sell almost anything. With over 18 million members, eBay is more popular than any other shopping site on the Internet.

2. People trade millions of different things on eBay's Website: from cars to electronics to musical instruments. Here's how it works: A member puts an advertisement for an item on the Web site. Other members bid, or offer money, for the item. The person who bids the most money gets to buy the item. Then the seller sends the item to the buyer.

3. "Selling on eBay is easy," says Mike Stacks. He's the owner of a company that sells used computers. And he adds, "I make friends on eBay. I think it's a very friendly place." But some people don't like it. "I think the traditional way to shop is better," says Jenny Feng, a student. "I want to touch things – not see a picture of them."

4. But whether you like it or not, eBay is here to stay. There are now eBay users in the United States, Europe, Latin America, China, and many other countries. Soon, people may be able to shop on eBay anywhere in the world.

6.1 Read the passages about: “The Advantages of the Internet.”

The Internet has changed the world we live in dramatically, so that in some ways it is unrecognizable from the place we lived in twenty years ago.  Communications have been revolutionized. Not only have cell phones found their way into most peoples pockets or purses, but they are also used for text messaging and as cameras. Long distance phone calls have been replaced by e-mail and video conferencing. Communications, person to person or company to company, have turned into a fast-paced exchange with instant response. In fact, it has become more convenient and efficient.

The other kind of communication the Internet provides is information. School children and medical researchers alike will tell you that they could not work without the Internet and its ability to connect them to any number of databases of information. Many people do their banking on-line. Others plan a trip and book a flight for themselves. People do their own stock trading through the Net. Sports fans follow scores and statistics on websites. Political junkies gather campaign statements and debate topics, even between elections. And almost everyone who owns a computer and has Internet access has bought at least one item on-line. No wonder some young people can not imagine what life was like before the Internet.

The real advantages of the Internet are not just the convenience and accessibility that it provides the average person. Its invention has made an enormous difference to the lives of physically challenged people. Those who are physically unable to get around easily can now access the outside world easily -- to order groceries, pay bills, take university degrees, communicate with friends, family and business associates. They can develop their own business, providing services using their skills on-line. The freedom that it has meant to those previously referred to as shut-ins is perhaps the most valuable form of progress brought by the Internet.
